Although the organization of Trinity Lutheran Church was not completed until May of 1920, the history of Lutheran church work in Lewiston goes back as far as 1907. From that time occasional services were held by visiting pastors. Through the efforts of Rev. A. Wolff of Genesee, Idaho, the Spokane Conference was persuaded to ask the Mission Board of what is now known as the American Lutheran Church to call a resident pastor to Lewiston for the beginning of a mission church.
